Our Journey to Thessaloniki: A Speedy Priest-Monk and Some Very Big Rocks

After our Ferry ride, Denis and I were blessed by Father Roman, a Russian Priest-Monk who offered us a ride to Thessaloniki

On the ferry to Igumenista. Denis talks with Father Roman, a Russian Priest-monk, who we met in Bari.

This is Denis with Jacob, a disciple of Fr. Roman from Germany. Jacob is an ex-convict who Father Roman discipled into the Faith. His zeal for the Faith was even more inspiring than Father Roman's zeal to speed to Thessaloniki (even if it meant seemingly driving on two wheels throughout the mountains and creating an extra lane whenever he need to pass people!).

Denis, Fr. Roman, and Jacob at the Meteora. The Meteora are large pillars of rock where monks, zealous to get away from worldly distractions, built monasteries and other dwellings.

A monastery at the Meteora. Although annoyingly touristy, these mountain dwellings were a marvel to behold.

Another Meteorite monastery.

I wonder if this is how the first monks scaled the rocks to build their monasteries?

More monasteries!

A cave dwelling at the Meteora.
